Dear Parents and Caregivers,

As a pediatrician and a parent, I’m delighted to tell you that the latest scientific research confirms what all of us know in our hearts – we are our children’s best teachers! We teach them every second we spend with them – smiling and cooing with them, singing to them, reading to them – from the moment they’re born.

This research also shows that a young child’s ability to absorb and learn new information follows specific developmental patterns. Very young children take simple sights and sounds and use them to form more complex concepts as they get older. That means that infants see, learn and process things differently than do older children.

So, when I was looking for DVDs for my youngest child, I wanted to find something based on these concepts of early learning and brain development. Despite my best efforts, I just couldn't find anything that fit this model completely. That's when I decided to create this type of DVD series myself. I knew that even though my child would be watching the screen for only brief periods of time, I wanted to make that time count. I wanted her to be watching something was developmentally appropriate and engaging without being overwhelming.
